You should focus more on networking and maybe volunteering for free to build up your experience. You need someone to vouch for you if you're going to get a job.

+1 to what Coriolis and Usehername suggested.

I've worked in software for the past 18 years.

Ain't looking to hand out food, I'm looking to work in IT field.

And yes, I agree that someone vouching for me would be the best case scenario, but I have zero ideas on how to get someone to vouch for me. Unless I'd fix a PC for some relatively dumb and really important figure, I don't see that happening.

So you have zero ideas on how to get someone to vouch for you, but you're not looking to volunteer your time? Okay.

Okay, handing out food and keeping my mouth shut about my beliefs gets me a noon to vouch that I'm great at handing out food. She writes me a reference after a few months of painful process. That doesn't help get me a job in IT.

As I see it, either it was a really bad and out-of-place joke, or it was an aggressive reply.

I think she was talking about an internship in the field, genius.

You can't get an internship without being a 4th course college student. Or is it 3rd? In fact, not even enough internships for them, especially in IT field. Last year, quite a few didn't have an internship.
