I knew if I mentioned Germany it would be a magic word.

I need my ipad for easy accent marks to reply properly... so I shall do it later en Español!

I am thinking of splitting my time in Europe between London (@HelenOfTroy ) and Spain. I should have made that clear. I would probably have 5 days at most in Spain with perhaps a day in between the two in Paris.

Because my enthusiasm is always greatest at the moment of inception, I am most excited now to plan and dream and do things that aren't priority in my life. :3

Sure it is if your native language is Italian :P

On the other hand, the two languages are so close that I have seen native speakers of both speaking the other language very badly because they never made an effort to truely learn and instead relied on the similarity to get their message across and comunicate.

Italian does sound better. You have to speak it from your soul.

I learned Ancient Greek! I speak a dozen languages. I have friends in every country on every continent. They'll never find me!

That's completely true for me. I can speak better german & english than spanish, exactly for the reason you mention.

    I can believe this.

My friend did an intensive year Spanish course on the eastern coast and of Spain and then went to Italy to do another year course in Italian there. She said the first Italians she encountered at the train station just laughed at her rudimentary Italian and attempts to get a cab and get help with her bags, so she switched to Spanish, instead. They understood her. I think she relied on Spanish until she got a footing in Italian and she said you could at least get by with it.
