my career plan as of oct 2011, volunteer 3 places Aids Project East Bay, Berkeley Ecology Center, and Oakland Animal Shelter volunteer for 10-20 hours a week. while volunteering look for a part time job, if and when job is found drop down in volunteer hours considerably work 3-4 days a week. January take 2 online courses and one at Berkeley City College. March travel to chicago and secure an apartment May move into new apartment start summer semester to finally finish my degree and begin looking into internships possible volunteer couple hours a week.

I don't see why not. It sounds like a good plan to me. Except Chicago? For Real?

Strategy is dependent on goals. It's like the 3 pick 2 of college: sleep, great grades, social life: you can only do two of them well. People choose to do college differently depending on their goals. Using one kind of strategy to achieve a very different goal is bad news (imagine the grade goal person using the social life and sleeping strategy--they're going to fail. But if their goal was to have a great time, well, that'd be a great strategy.)

What are your short term goals? What are some long term goals you're considering?

I think in general, making external commitments that you enjoy help with the moody part of being human. Volunteering following through with promises to show up is a great strategy for establishing a pattern of reliability and interest. These are good patterns to establish.
