I think EQ has more to do with how you manage your own emotions. For instance, knowing what your moods will be and why, and then capitalizing on this knowledge to increase your own productivity/whatever. I'm not sure that it has anything to do with how people perceive you. I could be wrong though, since I know that there are different "EQ" models.
